Western North Carolina Football Coaches Association strives to create a group of football coaches in WNC to stand together on critical issues dealing with the NCFCA. We provide professional development opportunities for coaches to enhance their skills and knowledge. Our focus is on the recruitment of WNC football players by providing opportunities that will better showcase our players to college coaches.

Coach Shane Laws
Head Coach, AC Reynolds High School
Shane Laws has been at A.C. Reynolds since 1997, serving as an assistant from 1997-2006. In 2007, Coach Laws took over the A.C. Reynolds football program. His record ranks him as one of the winningest coaches in all of North Carolina. Coach Laws is also the all-time winningest Head Coach in A.C. Reynolds football history in total games or winning percentage.

Since 2007, when he became the head coach, Coach Laws has won 13 conference championships, 17 Play-off appearances, 2 western regional championships (1 4A, 1 3A), a 4A State Championship in 2009 and a 3A State runner-up in 2017. Coach Laws was a part of the Rockets' 1999 and 2002 4A State Championship teams as an assistant coach.

Coach Laws is a 1991 graduate of Newton Conover High School and a 1996 Appalachian State University graduate with degrees in Physical Education and Political Science. He is married to the lovely Katy Demarco Laws, and they have three daughters Grace (The Citadel), Anna (University of North Carolina), and Gianna.

Coach Sherman Holt
Head Coach, Swain High School
Sherman Holt took over the Swain County football program in 2022. In his first 2 seasons as head coach, he has led the Maroon Devils to a 16-9 overall record including playoff appearances in each season.
Coach Holt is passionate about his role in developing young men on and off the field.
Coach Holt Spent 3 years at Tuscola High School Where he served as the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. Holt also coached at Erwin High School where he coached the offensive line and special teams. Over his coaching career Holt has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball and coached QBs, Offensive Line, Defensive line, Linebackers and Defensive Backs.
Coach Holt is a proud Graduate of Erwin High School (2006) and Appalachian State University (2011). While Attending Appalachian Coach Holt was a 4-year letterman and was a member of the 2007 FCS National Championship and won 4 southern conference titles as an offensive lineman.
"I am passionate about being a football coach and place a lot of responsibility on myself to do what is best for kids and developing them in the game of football and for life," says Holt. "I am very blessed to have played for several coaches that instilled a lot of core values that I use today in my own football program. I approach every day to try and be an influence in the lives of others like so many were for me."
Coach Holt is married to Telia and they have 3 children Riley, Bentley and Abby Mae.

Coach Joey Robinson
Head Coach, Mountain Heritage High School
Coach Robinson is entering his 25th year as the head coach of Mountain Heritage high school. He has also served as the schools AD since 2008.
He takes great pride in teaching young men the game of football and instilling values that will benefit them in life.
“I am blessed to have been able to wake up for the past 30 years and do what I love!" says Robinson. "The relationships that I have developed through the game of football has been the most rewarding part of this journey. I feel humbled, grateful and blessed to be called COACH. I have no doubt that the best football coaches in the state are in WNC.”

Coach Rodney Pruett
Head Coach, Erwin High School
Coach Pruett is entering his 9th season as head coach at Erwin high school and 25th overall. Career record of 50-38 as HC. Overall, he has been a part of 146 victories, multiple conference championships and 19 state playoff appearances.
"I take great pride in representing Erwin HS as their Head Football Coach," says Coach Pruett. "I have been blessed to work alongside some really good coaches but most importantly I am lucky I get to coach some really good players. I have learned It’s all about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s not the X’s and O’s. I am also proud to be a member of the WNC coaching fraternity. Friday nights are special in this part of the state, and I am very blessed to have been a part of this for so many years."

Coach Cort Radford
Head Coach, Asheville High School
Cort Radford took over the Asheville Cougar football program in 2000. In the past 4 years he has led the Cougars to a 27-15 overall record including a Conference Championship and playoff appearances in each season. Coach Radford has also helped 24 of his players go on and continue their education and playing career at the collegiate level in the last 4 years.
Prior to Asheville, Coach Radford got his first head coaching job at 28 years old at CHASE High School where he turned around a struggling program winning 10 games in his second season. Prior to CHASE, Coach Radford had stints at Crest (Defensive Coordinator), Erwin (LB Coach), Ben L. Smith (Offensive Coordinator) and Bunn High School (DL Coach).
Coach Radford began his coaching career at Appalachian State University where he graduated from in 2011. He worked with the Offensive Line under Shawn Elliott and with the Wide Receivers under Lance Taylor. In total, Coach Radford has coached in 176 games with an overall record of 113 - 63.
Coach TravisE Pitman
Head Coach, Mitchell High School
Coach Pitman has more than 24 years of coaching experience, including 10 years as Head Coach at Mitchell High. He has served as the NCFCA Region 8 representative from 2019 to present.
